Joe Heywood joined the team in January 2013 as a research assistant and works on the analysis of NCVO’s data on the size and scope of the voluntary sector in the UK. He studied European Social and Political Studies at UCL and went on to complete an MA in political science at McGill University in Montreal, specialising in quantitative methods. Joe has worked for Government Departments, NGOs and universities in London, Ottawa and Montreal.

Véronique Jochum manages NCVO’s research programme on voluntary sector trends and civil society issues including funding, workforce, charitable giving and social action. Prior to joining NCVO, she worked in a number of management consultancy firms in Paris and in London.

James McHugh is Knowledge Manager at  Skills – Third Sector. This includes responsibilities for monitoring and analysing policy and research relating to skills and the workforce. James has a BSc in Sociology from LSE and previous experience working at a political think tank, a race equality council, and charity fundraising.

Stephen McKay is the Distinguished Professor in Social Research at the University of Lincoln, and an honorary fellow of the Third Sector Research Centre (TSRC). In addition to looking at the workforce in the third sector he also conducts research on inequality and social security. He was an undergraduate at Oxford and has a PhD from Bristol.
